Marilyn Coffey

September 10, 1938 — September 21, 2019

Marilyn Young Coffey, 81, a devout wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2019 in Arlington, TX. surrounded by family and friends. Marilyn was born on September 10, 1938 in Mamou, Louisiana where she remained until she wed James (Jim) Coffey in May 1958. Jim swept her off her feet all the way to California where they raised two beautiful daughters, Cindy Coffey and Renee Coffey Strickland. She and Jim eventually settled in Arlington, TX. where she would spend the remainder of her life. Marilyn treasured her daughters and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Mamaw. Marilyn was known for her quick wit, infectious smile, her kind and compassionate spirit, and her mouthwatering Cajun cooking. Everyone in Marilyn's life can agree, she knew what life was really about: No one left her house with an empty belly. She was the most amazing cook. Her hands were seasoned with love and that was the main ingredient in everything she made. No one left her house without a hug. She welcomed everyone into her home with a warm hug and could be seen waving goodbye at the door until you drove off and around the corner. No one left her house without hearing her say I Love You. She had the purest heart of anyone we have ever known. We felt her love everyday she was on this Earth, and we feel it still as she reunites with loved ones who preceded her in death. Marilyn is survived by her lifelong sweetheart and husband of 61 years, James (Jim) Coffey; her two daughters, Cindy Coffey (Dutch Vallaster), and Renee Coffey Strickland (Buddy Strickland), her granddaughter, Jessica Sickels Brown (Jon Brown), and her sister Tina Bingman. Remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and loving friends. Marilyn had a heart of Gold. We feel so blessed to have had her in our lives. She touched the heart of every person she met. We are comforted in knowing we have the most beautiful guardian angel watching over us. Those who knew Marilyn know she hated being fussed over and would rather give than receive. In keeping with the wishes of Marilyn there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Stroke Association, americanstroke.org, 6405 Metcalf Ave. # 214, Overland, KS 66202, 913-649-1776.
