Maria Ejinia Fuentes died on November 5, 2017 in Arlington, Texas, after a brief illness. Maria was born in Corpus Christi in 1941 to Anastacia Molina Alvarado & Policarpio Alvarado. Growing up in Corpus Christi, Maria graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1960. Maria married childhood friend and neighbor, David Fuentes, Sr. on February 29, 1964. They moved to Harlingen, Texas in 1965 where she was a homemaker raising her children, then working in food service for various childcare centers and nursing home facilities until her retirement in 2006. After David's death in 2011, Maria relocated to Arlington, Texas.
Maria forever celebrated and supported independent thought and actions. She was always willing to provide advice if asked and was also quick to laugh at whatever circumstances life presented. Her laugh easily filled a room and you could usually find her in the middle of loud, spirited discussions with friends and family.
Maria is survived by her three children, Delia (Reynaldo) Molina, David (Kate) Fuentes, Jr, and Corina (John) Cervantes, and six grandchildren: Alessandro Cervantes, Nicolas Molina, Max Molina, Jamison Fuentes, Benjamin Cervantes, and Ana Kate Fuentes.
Maria will be missed but she will also be fondly remembered for her pride in her grandchildren, for her determination, and for her independent spirit. A memorial service will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 6717 S. Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas 78412.
