Marco Alejandro Favila passed away on October 22, 2024, at his home in Mexico City. Born on November 22, 1977, in Flint, Michigan, he was the son of Anastasio and Anita Favila. Marco received his early education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Flint and was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy. He graduated from Luke M. Powers Catholic High School in 1995.

Marco pursued higher education at the University of Texas at Arlington, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Philosophy. He excelled in his studies, making the Dean’s List and graduating cum laude while actively participating in the philosophy club. He furthered his education at Syracuse University School of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctorate along with a certificate in Estate Planning. His academic accomplishments included the Dean’s List and the Weil, Gotshal, & Manges LLP Leadership Grant. He interned for Justice Joseph E. Capella, then a Judge for the New York Housing Court. Following his internship, Marco passed the New York bar exam and practiced law in New York City for several years. His career included a notable position at Goldman Sachs, ultimately leading him to Citibank in Mexico City in 2016.

Marco had a vibrant appreciation for city life and enjoyed cooking for and sharing meals with loved ones. He possessed a refined taste in music, poetry, art, film, food, and fashion, and had a penchant for the eclectic. A fervent lover of philosophy, he inspired those around him to strive for excellence. Fluent in multiple languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Italian, and French, Marco demonstrated a remarkable ability to connect with diverse cultures. He proudly claimed the title of Black History Trivia Champion at Brooklyn’s Bar Sepia in 2012. Known for his kindness and generosity, Marco gave freely without expecting anything in return.

He is survived by his parents, Anastasio and Anita Favila, of Arlington, Texas; his brother Matthew (Lacy) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his sister Cynthia (Jason) of Tarrant County, Texas; his brother Patricio (Alicia) of Tarrant County, Texas; his beloved sobrinos; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends in the United States and Mexico.

Marco was preceded in death by his grandparents, Isaura Echeverri de Favila and Victor Favila; Ricardo Quintanilla and Jacinta Perez Quintanilla; as well as his uncles, Richard Quintanilla, Francisco Favila Echeverri, and aunt Florinda Favila Echeverri.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., followed by a prayer service with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Arlington, with final committal to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marco’s memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2316 W. Coldwater Rd., Flint, Michigan 48505.
