Loveta Sue Camp died December 13, 2024, in Grand Prairie, TX. Depending on what time of life you knew her, she was called Loveta by many from her childhood and early adult life, and Sue by most after she was married. Born in Mountain Park, OK, to Velma Teakell Walker and Lonzo Jefferson Walker, she was raised on the family farm in Snyder, OK. Her life there was spent with her siblings, Wanda, Sylvia, Jeff, Arlena and Arleta, working the farm and performing all the chores associated with raising crops and farm animals. After graduating from Snyder High School, she attended Cameron Community College in Lawton, OK. Meeting Clayton Leland Camp at a local church there opened a new chapter of life as they were married on September 19, 1952, at Pleasant Valley Community Church in the farming community of Snyder. The adventure began! And with that in mind, please know that it is hard to write about Loveta Sue without including Clayton, as they embodied God’s picture of marriage and being enmeshed as one. They were such a refreshing example to all of us about true love and selflessness.
The early years of marriage were spent in Lawton, OK, Mankato, MN, Garden City, MN, Grand Prairie, TX, and Arlington, TX. Most of their life was lived in Arlington, TX, where they raised two daughters, Leah Sue and Lisa Kay. Loveta Sue was a homemaker by choice—her cooking and sewing skills were exceptional. Babysitting and ironing provided additional income. She taught Good News Clubs in her home, sharing her faith in Jesus with neighborhood children. Attending Pantego Bible Church, she was a teacher for many years in the children’s church program using Child Evangelism materials. After Clayton decided to leave his job in the insurance industry, they entered into full time ministry through Bible Fellowships, sharing God’s Word in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, and later founded Rodeo and Fair Evangelism. They raised support and faithfully witnessed to thousands over the years at various fairs and rodeos, festivals, and flea markets throughout Texas. Many people made life changing decisions for salvation through Jesus at the State Fair of Texas and the Ft. Worth Stock Show at their Bible Booth. The whole family had the privilege of working in the Bible Booth and seeing hearts changed. So many people from their circle of church family and other Christian organizations worked at those booths over the years as well. Praise God!
As life progressed, the family grew as Leah married Jon Blondeau, and Lisa married John Swicord. Two grandchildren came along, Madeleine and Alex Blondeau, and many trips ensued to Jamestown, CO and Elko, NV for visits. Maddie and Alex have many stories to tell about their visits and listening to both grandparents describe their own childhoods--Grandpa in Africa, and Grandma on the farm.
In 2020, with the loss of her beloved Clayton, her health began to decline. So many friends and family stepped in to help with her needs. Eventually she moved to an assisted living home from where she passed into her heavenly home. We will ever be thankful for the loving care administered to her from hospice and her caregivers. She was a faithful servant of the Lord.
At the present time, one thing that Loveta Sue would want all of you to know is that she was a faithful prayer warrior for you. She and Clayton truly wanted God’s best for their family, friends, acquaintances, and even strangers. There are countless stories of people who they led to Christ that later contacted Dad and her with their gratitude for sharing the gospel with them.
Loveta Sue is pre-deceased by her parents, mother/father-in-law, her husband, one sister, one son-in-law, and a few brothers/sisters-in-law, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is survived by two daughters, Leah Blondeau and husband, Lisa Swicord, two grandchildren, one brother, three sisters, one brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Loveta Sue Walker Camp, thank you for sharing your life with us—we are truly blessed!
