Levi Walker

May 23, 1930 — July 1, 2022

Levi Walker, 92, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022 in Arlington.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at Matthew Road Baptist Church, 4601 Matthew Rd, Grand Prairie. Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.

Levi was born on May 23, 1930 in Lancaster, Texas to Levi Earl Walker and Susie Curlee Walker. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, and subsequently the Merchant Marines where he met some of his closest lifelong friends. Levi married Mary Doiron on December 22, 1955. After living in Lancaster, TX for a few years, Levi and family settled Arlington, TX in 1967. He spent 30 years in education in Dallas, Cedar Hill, and Arlington ISD — as a teacher, coach and as an administrator. Those 30 years were also spent working in food service part time at El Chico, McDonald’s, Traders Village, Ranger Stadium and 23 years with Six Flags. Levi retired from education in 1991 and retired from Six Flags 1998. Levi and Mary spent retirement caring for their grandchildren, attending concerts and school events. Levi enjoyed the last decade of his retirement providing yard service for his neighbors with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Levi had an exemplary work ethic.

Levi loved sweets, never waiting after a meal before starting dessert. He made pies for every family gathering – pecan pie was his specialty – along with lemon ice box, buttermilk, chess and pumpkin chiffon pies.

Levi loved being outdoors; you would often find him enjoying a cup of coffee on the porch. He also delighted in having a garden full of flowers and a vegetable garden, complete with fruit trees. Levi enjoyed watching sports, his favorites being baseball, basketball, football and golf. He was very involved with his grandchildren’s Boy Scout troops. He attended all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events. Levi was always there for his family when they needed him.

His sense of humor, support and hugs will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Levi is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Violet Doiron Walker; parents and siblings; MaryAnne Shguit, Jack Walker, Bertha Mae Holt, and Arthur Walker.

Survivors: Son, Corey Nevin Walker and wife, Sharon; daughter, Levianne Mirabelli and husband, Russell; sister, Bonnie Taylor; grandchildren, Jacob Walker and wife, Becky, Joseph Walker and wife, Hope, Rebekah Walker, Anthony Mirabelli, and Andrew Mirabelli; great-grandchildren, Isabelle Walker, Heath Walker, Rachel Walker, Jason Walker, Aaron Walker, Lily Walker and Grace Walker; and a host of other family members and friends.
