Leonard Henry “Boom” Monfries passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the age of 89.
The family will have a private memorial service and interment at a later date.
Leonard was bon in Chicago, Illinois on December 5, 1927 to Elsie and Henry Monfries.
Leonard grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois and attended Downers Grove High School. He served in the U. S. Army before marrying Nancy Maguire in 1950. In 1965 he moved their family to Texas, where Leonard worked in the chemical sales and concrete industry until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his retirement hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada with his sons and grandsons and fishing in Wisconsin with his brother.
Memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church of Terrell, Texas, 824 Griffith Ave, Terrell, Tx 75160, where he was an active member for many years.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, his parents, and a brother, Bill.
Survivors: Left behind to cherish his memories are his daughters, Susan Overcash and husband, Earl and Julie Kilpatrick and husband Steve; sons, Jim Monfries and wife Pam, Bill Monfries and wife America, and son, John Monfries; eleven grandchildren, John, Jarod, Katy, Luke, Henry, Laura, Stacey, Jessica, Spencer, Nicholas and Rachel; six great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Jayde, Bryce, Charlotte, Natalie and Lucy and one great-great-grandchild, Bailynn.
