ARLINGTON -- Leonard "Bud" Bishop Olson, 80, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, in Fort Worth.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1200 S. Davis Drive, Arlington, the Rev. Father Jim Pemberton, celebrant.
Memorials: Those who wish to do so may make memorial contributions to the Arlington Animal Shelter.
Bud was born on April 12, 1934, in Fort Worth to Leonard Jerome Olson and Gladys Bishop Olson. Raised in Fort Worth, he graduated from Arlington Heights High School. Bud attended Arlington State College and Texas Christian University. He received his master's degree from St. Louis University.
Bud was commissioned as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1957, and served from then until 1965, having risen to the rank of major. He retired from a career in hospital administration, beginning his career at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Worth and moving to other hospitals in Cincinnati, Ohio; Lincoln, Neb.; Portland, Maine; and St. Paul in Dallas. After leaving the hospital field, he spent several years at Greenwood-Mount Olivet in Fort Worth. Bud and his wife, the former Mary Schroeder, who predeceased him in 2000, then retired to their farm in Boyd.
He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Arlington.
Bud was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Margaret Olson; son, Patrick; daughter, Margaret; grandson, Phillip; and sister, Charla Mae Scott.
Survivors: Wife, Janice Hardwick Olson; sons, Michael Olson, John Olson and Joseph Olson; daughter, Katherine Froelich; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
