Lela Anne Lackey, 86, passed away on February 19, 2022 in Arlington.
Funeral Service: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Graveside Service: 2 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 10:30-11:30 prior to the service at the funeral home.
Lela was born on November 29, 1935 in Crockett, Texas to Jarrett Howard Barnes and Jessie Mildred Manville Barnes. She graduated from Crockett High School and Sam Houston State Teachers College. Lela earned her Master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University.
She met her husband, Wendell in 1956 and they were married in 1957 in Crockett. They continued a lifelong career in teaching and coaching for the next 35 to 38 years. Lela was a longtime public school teacher and counselor in Ballinger, Belton, Taylor, Kilgore and Arlington. She retired from the AISD in 1994.
An Arlington resident since 1970, she was a member of First United Methodist Church. She dearly loved her family and will be missed.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Lackey in February 2020.
Survivors: Daughters, Dana L. Lackey and Carla K. Lackey; sons, Ron K. Lackey and Russ C. Lackey; sister, Thelma Joyce Broxson; grandchildren, Hannah M. Davies, Eric C. Smith, Brandon T. Davies and Grayson C. Lackey.
