Laura Jean Broyles

October 3, 1927 — January 23, 2021

Laura Jean (Singleton) Broyles was born in Wichita, Kansas on October 3, 1927 to Tom & Helen Singleton. Laura Jean met the love of her life in high school around 1944 and married Arthur William Broyles in 1947. Together they raised 12 amazing children. During the 1960's Art opened the first Pizza Huts in North Texas and Laura Jean enjoyed having Sunday pizza parties with her large family. In 1987 Laura Jean lost her husband of 40 years to cancer and found herself facing the challenges of being a widow, trying to keep the family going forward. Laura Jean was a loving and devoted wife and mother and active in her church. Her husband, children and their families were always her first priority. As her niece said so eloquently, as she was the oldest and last living of her 4 sisters, “She played the oldest sister role taking care of her sisters to the very end.” She preferred working behind the scenes and volunteering for various functions at St. Maria Goretti Church, including Women's Guild, Fall Festival and numerous other activities involving her children's daily activities. She leaves a legacy of giving and loving others, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her 12 children, Bill Broyles, Mary Ann Crawford, Helen Kavanaugh (Keith), Peggy Vinson, Steve Broyles (Kathy), Marlene Chinchilla (Ed), Laura Lee Trantham, Elizabeth Broyles, Judy Broyles, Tom Broyles (Dena), Rose Lee Woodman (Len), Joe Broyles (Kiki), 31 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, brother-in-law Dan Carney, and many nieces and nephews. Laura was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Broyles, great granddaughter Micah Faith Feronti, parents Tom & Helen Singleton, son-in-law Bill Crawford, sisters Dorothy Kimzey (Jack), Beverly Carney, Barbara Pate (Don), Nancy Schleicher (Chuck), infant brother William Singleton, sisters/brothers-in-law Grace Young (Bob), Ruth Whitmore (Charles), Edna (Eddie) Burnett (Norman) and Vivi Buige; nieces and nephew, Kay Carney, Brenda Denton, LouAnn Loder and Eric Schleicher. Visitation and Rosary will be on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. Visitation at 6:00 pm and Rosary at 6:30 pm.
