Larry Shannon Gaston, 58, passed away on February 17, 2021, in Arlington, Texas.
He was born on March 15, 1962, in Houston, Texas, the third child to HL and Patsy Gaston.
Larry graduated from McCullough High School in The Woodlands, TX, in 1980, and went on to study business at Sam Houston State University. His career was in retail management, managing stores for Loews Theaters, Walgreens, Big Lots, and Lowes Home Improvement.
Larry married his wife Linda Marie (Pease) Gaston on November 9, 1991, in Arlington. They were blessed with their daughter, Katie Marie, in 2006.
Larry was best known for his great laugh, and he rarely took things too seriously. Few things made him laugh harder than when he was laughing at himself.
He would often randomly break out into song, loudly, and could sing all the words to the alma mater for Mayberry Union High from the Andy Griffith show. His musical tastes ran the gamut from the Moody Blues to Johnny Cash to Frank Sinatra, and he enjoyed attending live concerts.
He loved the movies, especially older ones, frequently quoting lines from Jaws or the Godfather.
He was a total extrovert and made friends easily. He enjoyed history, and he was particularly interested in hearing the stories of any older veterans he met.
He always wanted to be barefoot and outside, preferably on a beach or at a lake. He loved to travel. Not a fan of flying, he enjoyed family road trips to Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Galveston.
Sports was pretty much his one and only hobby. He was a loyal fan of the Astros and the Cowboys, and was a walking encyclopedia of sports history, facts, and trivia. He enjoyed attending baseball games each year with his brother and nephews.
He worked very hard in his career as a retail manager, helping the stores he managed to improve and succeed. He cared for and knew how to motivate his employees.
Larry had a huge heart for his family and friends, and he felt things very deeply.
He wasn't shy about giving a hearty "amen" when moved to do so, and he knew Jesus as his Saviour.
Larry is survived by his wife and daughter, Linda and Katie, of Arlington, TX; his sister Lisa Roberts and husband Wayne, of Glenpool, OK, and their children and grandchildren; his brother Lee Gaston and wife Mary, of Owasso, OK, and their children and grandchildren.
