ARLINGTON-Larry Collins McNeil, 77, passed away from lung cancer peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, March 16th 2017.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 20, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1200 W Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington. Interment: Parkdale Cemetery, Arlington. Visitation: 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Music Department or TUMC Building Fund.
Larry was born in Abilene, Texas on August 14, 1939 and raised in Stamford, Texas where he met and married the love of his life, Mary. After graduation from Stamford H.S., Larry attended North Texas State University in Denton graduating with a degree in education followed by a Master's Degree in Education Administration. He taught at Nichols Jr. High School in Arlington from 1961 to 1964 and subsequently entered the Insurance industry as a field man with The Great American Insurance Company starting a long and successful career in the Insurance industry. Larry joined Alcon Insurance Managers, an insurance agency in Arlington, in 1975 which later became McNeil & Co. Insurance Agency which he managed alongside his son Gary until merging with several friends in 1996 creating First Texas Insurance Services, L.C. where he worked until his retirement in 2015.
Larry was an avid golfer, hunter and singer and had a great passion his church and for children and children's causes. Larry served as a board member for the Arlington Boys Club (later Boys and Girls Club of Arlington) during the 1980's and 1990's where he helped enrich the lives of the children they served. He greatly enjoyed singing with the Chancel Choir as well as The Pops at Trinity United Methodist Church in Arlington. Always an optimist, Larry was an absolute joy to be around and lived his 77 years to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Bailey McNeil and Laverne Collins McNeil.
Survivors: Larry is survived by his wife Mary and son Gary, daughter-in-law Charlene and granddaughter Jessica.
