L.J. Kemp, a devoted family man and esteemed mechanical engineer, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2023, at the age of 94. Born on September 21, 1929, L.J.’s remarkable life was filled with a passion for fixing cars and tractors, embodying the true spirit of a handyman.

Born in Mingus, Texas and later moving to Fort Worth and Arlington, L.J. dedicated 43 years of his career and retired as a senior engineer at Bell Helicopter, where his expertise and ingenuity were instrumental in developing and refining the iconic Huey Helicopter. His unwavering commitment to his work and his meticulous attention to detail garnered him a reputation of excellence in his field.

Beyond his professional achievements, L.J. Kemp was a graduate of Texas Christian University and always proud to be a Horned Frog; a 32nd degree Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge and served in the US Army as part of the Military Police. He enjoyed spending time on the family farm near Stephenville and held a soft spot for all dogs. He could be found bonding with any and every dog that ever crossed his path.

L.J. was a pillar of strength and compassion for his family, always placing their needs above his own. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60-years, Barbara Jean Kemp, and siblings Bob Kemp, Barbara Orzoco. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Shirley Gammon, his devoted son, Michael Kemp, and two granddaughters; Lyndsey King and Harper Kemp.

The graveside services and ceremonies to honor L.J.’s remarkable life will take place on October 12, 2023, at 2p.m. at the Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 N Davis Dr. in Arlington, Texas.

L.J. Kemp will be remembered as a hardworking individual who exemplified an exceptional work ethic and an unwavering dedication to his family. His legacy of kindness, compassion, and commitment will continue to inspire generations to come.

Rest in peace, L.J. Kemp. You will forever be etched in our hearts, and your spirit will continue to shine upon us.
