In the early hours of Monday, April 22, 2024, the world bid farewell to a beloved wife, mother, daughter, and dedicated educator, Kristi Kay Caldwell Hazelwood.
Kristi’s journey began on May 4, 1971, born to parents Jim and Janice Caldwell. She spent her childhood years in Grand Prairie, Texas, and completed her high school education at South Grand Prairie High School in 1989. Five years later, she met her soulmate, Todd Anthony Hazelwood, fondly known as Tony, and they tied the knot in 1995. The joy of motherhood graced her in the year 2000, and again in 2007. She was not just a mom, but a friend to her children, actively participating in their education and interests. Kristi was an avid reader, a traveler, and a Disney enthusiast. She cherished the time she spent with her loved ones and friends.
Kristi’s passion for knowledge led her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, followed by a Master’s degree in Library Science from Texas Woman’s University. She channeled her love for reading and education into a fulfilling 25-year career as a teacher and librarian in Irving ISD. Kristi impacted many lives and fostered a love for reading in every student she taught, leaving behind an enduring legacy.
Her spirit continues to live on through her husband, Tony, their two sons, Ryan (23) and Logan (16), her mother Janice, her sister Jami, and her loving family and friends.
A private memorial service will be held in honor of Kristi. The family respectfully requests that, instead of flowers, donations be made to a Women’s Cancer Charity organization or Room to Read (click here to donate now) in Kristi’s name.
