He, along with three brothers immigrated with his now deceased parents, Harry and Maria Lutman, in 1974 to Bayou La Batre near Mobile, Alabama. After graduating from Benton Cato Rain high school, Kirk enlisted in the United States Air Force where he spent twelve years as an aircraft jet engine mechanic. During his stationing at Griffiss Air Force base near Rome, New York, he met Donna Sutton, a KC135 air refueling boom operator. They were married on May 30, 1992 at Holy Trinity Catholic church in Utica, New York.
After their enlistments were completed and they were honorably discharged as veterans of the first Gulf War, they moved to Trussville, Alabama where Kirk acquired a management position at PEMCO, a KC135 overhaul facility at the Birmingham airport. Later, they moved to Mobile, Alabama where Kirk worked for Mobile Aerospace repair station as an aircraft mechanic.
In 1999, Kirk and Donna moved to Chippewa Township PA with their two children when he was hired as a maintenance control technician for US Airways. Special friends, Mike (Karla) Isley and Jim (Renee) Shrewsbury must be mentioned along with a host of their other close Sunday “Steeler Party” friends from the Chippewa area too many to name; but you know who you are.
Kirk will be remembered for his knack of fixing anything whether it be cars, lawn mowers or any type of home improvement or construction, especially decks. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and had recently become an accomplished SCUBA diver. He will be welcomed in the hereafter by his parents, brothers and with open paws by his best furry friend Socks.
