Kimberly Jean (Wheeldon) McGregor, affectionately known to most as “Kim,” passed away on September 21st, 2023. She was the second daughter born to Gene and Shirley Wheeldon in Council Bluffs, Iowa on May 27th, 1960. She was a graduate of McArthur High School in Irving and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree from UT Arlington, a testament to her dedication to education. While she initially ventured into the world of IT after college, Kim’s true calling was in teaching.
Her career in education spanned various roles, from serving as a preschool director and substitute teacher to imparting knowledge to 1st graders and 5th-grade math students at Ashworth Elementary. This school held a special place in her heart, as it was where all three of her children received their early education. Even after retiring, Kim continued to share her passion for learning by providing private tutoring, thriving in the one-on-one dynamic.
Kim found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved savoring an ice-cold cherry limeade or a refreshing half-and-half Sonic tea. She enjoyed hosting family and friends for spirited game nights. She indulged in her love for cooking, baking, and grilling. Her summer mornings were spent in the pool, exercising and listening to her favorite tunes.
She was a woman of deep faith who held a special place in her heart for a multitude of people. Her favorite times were those spent with the ones she loved the most.
She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 40 years, Mark; her daughter Megan and son-in-law Jason; her son Matthew and daughter-in-law Brittany; her sister Cindy and brother-in-law Randy. She is predeceased by her eldest daughter Meredith, and her two loving parents Gene and Shirley.
Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Kim are invited to join in celebrating her life at First United Methodist Church in Mansfield on Friday, September 29th at 6pm.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional care provided by the ICU staff at Methodist Mansfield Hospital who cared for Kim in her final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to either JDRF or St. Jude’s in Kim’s memory.
Kim’s legacy of love and dedication to both her family and the field of education will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
