Kenneth R. Herrington, a beloved husband, father, teacher, and handyman, passed away on November 12, 2023, at the age of 84. Born on July 23, 1939, in Connerville, Oklahoma, Kenneth lived a full life filled with love and dedication to his family. He resided in Arlington, Texas for 45 years.
As a high school mathematics teacher, Kenneth shared his passion for learning with generations of students. He taught at Trinity, Texas High School, McKinney High School, and Grand Prairie High School.
Kenneth’s commitment to education extended beyond the classroom, as he also spent time tutoring students in all levels of math, including his 6 grandchildren at one time or another.
He was also a talented carpenter and took immense pride in his work. After retirement, he worked at Arlington Hardware and later started his own lawn mowing business. Each of his grandsons learned about his work ethic, as he gave them all jobs during the summer.
Kenneth found joy in gardening and caring for his plants, too. Every day he walked 5 miles with his furry friend, Buddy, who was always by his side. He loved the Rangers and celebrated their recent World Series win with his family.
His gentle and quiet nature was evident in his relationships. He loved unconditionally, always accepting others for who they are, and was there to support his family through thick and thin. He built playgrounds, sandboxes, tables, and fences, for his children and grandchildren. He never missed a graduation or important ball game, or the chance to move his grandkids from one dorm or apartment to another, regardless of the distance! “Pop” as he was called, loved dialing his kids and grandkids at 6 a.m. on their birthdays and sending them funny cards.
Kenneth was a Christian who served in several area Lutheran churches as an elder and in other capacities. Providing comfort and support to people in need was a calling for him. He went to incredible lengths to make our slice of the world a better place.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen LiBassi, and husband Michael, his son Marty Wieder, and wife Bonnie, as well as his sister-in-law, Patty Scott, and niece, K’Mya Butler. He will be always remembered for his fun spirit by his grandchildren: Nick LiBassi and wife Laura, Jessica LiBassi, Casey Wieder, Carleigh Long and husband Scott, Collin Wieder and wife Jillian, Christian Wieder, and his great-grandchildren: Nate, Peter, Annie, McKenzie, Ollie, Graham, Jack, and Georgia.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Kathryn Wieder, his first wife of 16 years Sharon Strunk, and his parents, Burl and Clarice Herrington. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
Please join us to remember and celebrate our Pop’s life. Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas.
