ARLINGTON -- Kenneth George Swanson, 90, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, in Arlington.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 1200 S. Collins, Arlington, with the Rev. Rob McClelland officiating. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Ken was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., to Albert G. Swanson and Irene Geijer Swanson. He was a member of Swedish Covenant Church in Chicago. Ken was a staff sergeant and veteran of World War II. He married Lorraine Lenore Rich in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on Nov. 22, 1947. He resided in Madrid, Iowa, for many years where he was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. He retired from Swift & Co. as a manager and then owned a meat brokerage firm in Ames, Iowa. A resident of Arlington since 2002, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Arlington.
He collected coins for many years and enjoyed increasing his vocabulary and challenged his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to do the same.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Milton Swanson and Norman Swanson.
Survivors: Wife, Lorraine L. Swanson; sons, Kenneth Steven Swanson and wife, Vicki, and Keith Swanson and wife Valarie; daughters, Kathy Kuligowski and husband, Ed, Cindy Denney and husband, Mark, and Beth Henkel and husband, Alan; grandchildren, Joshua, Heather, Sarah, Meghan, Douglas, Andrew, Nicholas, Alex, Daniel and Steven; and 10 great-grandchildren.
