Kay Gurley

March 20, 1947 — February 26, 2023

Kay Gurley, 75, passed away February 26, 2023. SERVICE: Visitation service will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home 4140 W Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, TX 76013. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Sagamore Baptist Church 2301 Dottie Lynn Pkwy Fort Worth, TX 76129.

Kay was born on March 20, 1947 to Bob and Imogene Miller. She was born and raised in Fort Worth where she graduated from Eastern Hills High School in 1965. She entered the banking business as a teller in 1974 and over the years worked her way to Senior Vice President Controller, where she retired in 2001. As a testament to her leadership, she remained long-time friends with many former colleagues.

When Kay was diagnosed in 2008 with Myelofibrosis, she was only expected to live for two years, but she beat the odds and went on to survive for 14 more years. Many did not realize how sick she was, she often joked “It’s amazing what you can cover up with a lot of Jesus and a little bit of lipstick.” She was a fighter and wanted to stay in the lives of her family for as long as she was able.

Kay was a faithful member of Sagamore Baptist Church where she met the love of her life, Joe Gurley in 1976. She often referred to him as her “Knight and Shining Armor.” They were happily married for 40 years and 1 day before he passed in October 2017.

Kay was a devoted mother to her two sons and three step-children and grandmother to her many grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than celebrating those she loved. She was a faithful woman of God and fervent prayer warrior and will be greatly missed.

SURVIVORS: Kay is survived by her Children Brent Warren (Wife Ashley) and Mike Warren, Step-Children, Tommy Gurley (wife Roberta), Brenda Gurley (husband Ron), Michael Gurley (Wife Annette); Grandchildren Casey O’Keefe, Shawn O’Keefe, Amanda Gurley, Kyle Gurley, Kelsey Warren, Kara Warren, and Case Warren; and five great-grandchildren.
