Kathy Sue Fuller Havins was born in Wurzburg, West Germany, January 3, 1958, and died peacefully in her sleep in Lafayette, Louisiana, on December 17, 2022. Her favorite fact about herself to share was that she was born in a country that no longer exists. She was raised in Pantego, Texas, and was a proud Arlington High Colt, Class of 1976. Strong in her faith in the Lord from an early age, she dreamed of working the mission fields abroad, but instead met the love of her life, Terry Havins, on a blind date in 1975. They wed December 23, 1977 and settled in north Arlington, where they raised 3 children, countless dogs, a handful of rabbits, a few cats, and numerous stray teens and young adults brought home by the kids. Kathy discovered that she was able to continue her dream of being a missionary closer to home. Her mission field became the staff and students of Arlington High School, where she worked several different positions from 1995 until her retirement in 2016. After she retired from Arlington High she was able to devote all her free time to her most prized possessions, her grandchildren. She taught them how to read, count, sing, and love the Lord and Disney animated films.
Kathy loved her family, those she was biologically related to, and those she chose to welcome to her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Maxine Fuller, her beloved parents in-law, with whom she shared a wedding anniversary, Ruth and Ray Havins, and her youngest brother Danny Fuller. In addition to her brother, David Fuller, wife Claudia, sister-in-law, Tina Fuller-Jones, husband Mike Jones, and a very large extended family, Kathy is survived by her loving family, of which she was the rock and the sun of our solar system; her husband of nearly 45 years, Terry, oldest daughter Katie, and husband Brian Coleman, youngest daughter Kristie, and son, Chris, and wife Sarah Havins, along with her 4 beautiful grandchildren: Colton Coleman, 14, Elisabeth Rivera, 10, Calvin Havins, 6, and Cecilia Havins, 2, and the hundreds of Millennials who affectionately call her Momma Havins.
The family welcomes you for visitation from 2-3pm with a celebration of Kathy’s life to follow at 3pm, Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Pleasantview Baptist Church, 4400 Pleasantview Dr, in Arlington. All ages are welcome and wanted. In lieu of flowers or houseplants that Terry will forget to water, please consider a donation to Arlington Charities, or Helping Restore Ability, in Kathy’s honor.
