Judith Jernigan Gupton

Judith Virginia Jernigan Gupton, known to her loved ones as Judy, gracefully concluded her earthly journey on April 8, 2024, leaving behind a tapestry of love, compassion, and cherished memories that will endure through generations.

Born into a proud military family, Judy exemplified the steadfast dedication and unwavering support of a military wife, standing by her beloved husband, Colonel Jack A. Gupton (Ret.) USAF, throughout his thirty-year service. Their enduring bond, forged over fifty-six years of marriage since their union on June 10, 1967, was a testament to their deep love and commitment to one another. Their love story, which began at a college dance in 1965, unfolded into a lifetime of shared adventures, joys, and triumphs.

Judy’s life was a testament to her multifaceted passions and unwavering devotion to her family and community. She found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, from her love of cooking, which she generously shared with family and friends, to her appreciation for literature, evident in her vast collection of over three thousand books. Judy’s kitchen was a haven of warmth and hospitality, where her renowned Coconut Caramel pies and cherished family recipes brought joy to countless gatherings and celebrations. Her culinary prowess was matched only by her generous spirit, as she opened her home to others, including those far from home during holidays in South Korea, ensuring that no one felt alone.

Judy’s compassion extended beyond her kitchen walls, as she dedicated several years of her life as a Nurse for the Red Cross. Her selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, as she tirelessly supported charitable causes and organizations, embodying the values instilled in her by her Christian faith and Baptist upbringing.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Judy’s love knew no bounds. Her grandchildren affectionately called her Gran Gran, a testament to the special bond she shared with each of them. Judy’s wisdom, humility, and unwavering support were the cornerstones of her role as the backbone of her family, instilling values and morals that will endure through generations.

Judy is preceded in death by her father Dr. James Powell Jernigan, and mother Virginia Pollard Gibson.

Judy’s memory will be forever cherished by her loving husband, Colonel Jack A. Gupton (Ret.) USAF; her Son Jack A Gupton Jr. and wife Susie along with their children Benjamin James, Samuel Christian, and David Jonathan; Daughter Virginia Anne Paredes and husband Jason with their children Abigail Virginia, Max FuGu, Madeline Elizabeth, Analiese Hope, Georgia Grace and Jovie JingQing; Daughter Sarah Elizabeth Blair and husband Brian with their children Tyler Lyle, Brian Alan, and Brandon Jernigan; Brother James Powell Jernigan Jr and wife Julia; Sister Janet Aileen Jernigan and husband Frank Heft. She is also survived by many beloved cousins.

A celebration of Judy’s life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Fielder Church Pioneer Campus in Arlington, Texas, followed by a private graveside service on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, Tarrant County Food Bank, Meals on Wheels Tarrant County, or a charity of your choice, honoring Judy’s legacy of compassion and generosity. Though Judy may have left this world, her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
