Juanita Armstrong Davis

January 29, 1929 — February 19, 2013

ARLINGTON -- Juanita Armstrong Davis, 84, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Thursday at Rush Creek Christian Church, 2401 S.W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington. A slideshow of Nita's life will be featured after the service. When the spirit and soul of this great lady was taken from this earth, all humanity suffered a loss! Her warm smile, keen memory and sharp eye for every detail made every encounter with her a wonderful experience. She seldom spoke of herself, preferring to ask her visitor about their family, friends, experiences or pains. Nita was an avid reader most of her 84 years, having been born in Henderson in 1929 to the family of Joe and Carrie Armstrong. She and her two brothers, Pete and "Army," who predeceased her, made up a family unit that was unshakeable in its unity! As a gourmet cook, Nita took great pride in giving her recipes to others, and in teaching her children the nuances of cooking specialties that her mother, Carrie, had passed on to her. She was an avid crossword puzzle worker, preferring to work the puzzle in ink, going across one day and down the next. This skill made her vocabulary extraordinarily magnificent. She was a trim and dynamic individual, always meticulous in her appearance, and energetic about any task she tackled. Her sparkling blue eyes met everyone with a special welcome that made her an instant friend. As a mother, Nita had no equal. For the 59-plus years of their marriage, Nita held sway to the needs of her two children, Dan and Sherry, and cherished their companionship and love, as she did that of her husband. Nita lived life to the fullest! Her wonderful attitude about life and loving made her hundreds of friends across the nation, and overseas, as she traveled with her husband, Ken. She was keenly proud to have retired from the FBI! Her last two years were ones of pain, as her body became frail and weak. She suffered a broken hip, then three massive strokes. Even so, she kept the magnificent and dynamic countenance to the very end, defeating death on at least three occasions. Her will to live, her positive attitude, and her strong determination kept her with us for many weeks after the medical staff had given up. Only God Almighty overrode her strong will and took her to heaven, where she now awaits all of us as she prepares the way for us to join her. Survivors: Husband, Ken; son, Dan Davis and wife, Vicki; daughter, Sherry Westmoreland and husband, Steve; granddaughter, Carrie; grandson, Randy Westmoreland; great-grandson, Daniel Lea; nephews, D'wayne and William Armstrong; and nieces, Sharon Walston and Nell LeJune.
