Joy was born at home on her family's farm near Petit, Texas. She married Harold in 1954 and continued to work as a secretary until the birth of her first child. Her family was her priority, and the remainder of her life was spent as a homemaker. She and Harold provided a home for their niece and nephew for several years. She was an excellent cook, and her family fondly remembers sharing her home-cooked meals.
She loved birds and flowers, and enjoyed traveling with her family, from weekend getaways with the grandkids to cross-country trips. Although disabled by polio, she never complained, focusing instead on the needs of others. She loved to sing, and “The Old Rugged Cross” was one of her favorite hymns. Harold and Joy were inseparable, and as much in love 65 years later as on the day they wed.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bessie Jane Reding; brothers, Lowell “Bushy” Reding and Gerald Reding; sisters Norma Boggs and Flo Vallance; nephews Jim Reding, Ashley Vallance, and Wesley Vallance; and great-grandchild, Emmett Eli Hebison.
Joy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harold Viaille; son, Douglas and wife, Mary; daughter, Cheri Cuellar and husband, Pete; sister-in-law Jerrie Reding; nieces and nephews, Joe Boggs, Terrie Cannon, Cindy Patterson, Kevin Reding, Gary Reding, and David Vallance; grandchildren, Anna, Mila, Jon, Landon, and Amanda; and seven great-grandchildren.
Designated memorials include her home church, Shiloh Terrace Baptist in Dallas, and Mission Arlington, which has ministered to Joy and Harold since moving to Arlington in 2018.
