Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Joseph Bruce Nuttall (Bruce), passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on the morning of March 21, 2024, in Arlington, Texas. He was the middle child of Rulon and Bernice Hughes Nuttall, and was delivered by his grandfather Dr. Joseph Hughes at Hughes Memorial Hospital in Spanish Fork, Utah on November 22, 1929.
Growing up near Alta, Utah, Bruce became an avid skier. In his twenties, he attended officer’s school and served stateside during the Korean war. With help from the GI Bill, Bruce graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in business. Throughout his career, he managed various Skaggs Albertsons stores. Upon retirement in Arlington, Bruce kept busy by joining the Arlington Senior Men’s Club, helping start up an investment club, filling vending machines, ushering at home games for the Texas Rangers, and travelling to Paris with friends as part of a hot-air balloon crew.
In 1952, Bruce met nurse Joanna Dunyon on a blind date. Their marriage lasted nearly 67 years, during which they lived in several states before settling in Texas with their four children. Later in life, they enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, British mysteries, as well as attending plays, symphonies, operas, and the ballet.
Bruce is survived by his son D. Bruce (Marie), daughter Charisse (John), daughter Denice (Charles), granddaughter Jordan, grandson Max, great-grandson Kaiden, sister Diane (Bill), sister-in-law Marilyn (Rulon), and cats Jet and Shadow.
He was preceded in death by his wife and their oldest daughter Corinne (Dennis) who fought a courageous battle against cancer but ultimately lost in November 2021.
The family would like to thank the professionals at Carver Heights for their wonderful care of Bruce during his final weeks. And, also, JoAnn for her years of friendship and kindness.
In celebration of Bruce’s life, an open house will be held from 2:00-4:00 on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Wade Funeral Home (4140 West Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, Texas 76013). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity.
