Joseph (Charlie) W. Brown Jr. of Arlington, Texas, passed away on the 16th of December 2024. He left us peacefully in his sleep with the company of family. He was born to Beulah and Joseph Brown in Mount Kisco, New York and had recently celebrated his 87th birthday. October 31st will forever hold a special place in our hearts, as it is Charlie’s birthday, Halloween and his wedding anniversary to his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Reeder, whom he married in 1961.
Charlie moved to Dallas, Texas in his early teens with his parents and joined the Army after high school. After his military service, he moved to Bowie, Texas, where he found a love for music in radio broadcasting and met his sweetheart while she was home visiting family. He fell head over heels even after having to tote her two little brothers on every date that summer. After a very short courtship, they married and moved around the country for his work as a radio disc jockey. Barbara, juggling two baby girls, told Charlie it was time to go home where both of their parents lived and could help. They built a house in Arlington, Texas in 1968 and spent their lives there raising 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
Charlie got a job at LTV (Vought / Northrop Grumman) and went back to college. He graduated UTA with a business management degree and stayed with the same company until he retired. He was a wonderful husband, father, friend and provider. Although he was generally a quiet man, he had the best laugh, never knew a stranger and offered genuine kindness to everyone he met. He was a good listener and made many stories for Barbara to tell over the decades. He coached soccer, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was involved with his church. He enjoyed reading, water skiing, fishing, and traveling the world with Barbara and friends. Perhaps the greatest gift he gave his daughters was the time spent with them on many father / daughter canoe and camping trips to rivers around Texas.
We will all miss the sweet, fun, silly, and loving moments with our dad.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Cameron Brown (Son), Kimberly Hiebert (Daughter), Gordon Hiebert (Son-in-law), Clayton Hiebert, Spencer Hiebert, Emery Hiebert (Grandsons), Darlynda Casterline (Daughter), David Casterline (Son-in-law), and Danyelle Casterline (Granddaughter).
There will be a graveside service on January 8th, 2025, at 11:15 at Dallas National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers please donate to Tunnels to Towers Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
