Jon Warren Stone

Jon Warren Stone, 73, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 in Arlington.

Service: Saturday, January 29, 2:00 pm at Fielder Church in the Main Chapel (not Metrocenter), 2011 S. Fielder Rd, Arlington, Texas 76013.
Memorials: in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mission Arlington.

Jon was born on January 12, 1948 in Springfield, Missouri to Thurman Lee Stone and Donna Dean Stone. He met Lyn Miller at the University of North Texas, where Jon was a member of the famed
One O’Clock Lab Band. He and Lyn were married on the UNT campus on August 18, 1971. Jon worked as a free lance musician playing saxophone, clarinet and flute in the DFW area since 1966.
He was a member of the Six Flags Southern Palace pit orchestra & Leader of Six Flags Dixieland Band.
As a member of the Dallas/Fort Worth Professional Musicians Association he performed with the following: Glenn Miller Orchestra, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini, The Four Tops,
The Temptations, The Supremes, Burt Bacharach, Nancy Wilson, “Tex” Beneke, Nancy Wilson,
Johnny Mathis, Natalie Cole, Ray Price, Red Skelton show, and the Wichita Falls Symphony. He performed with the Fort Worth Symphony in “Annie” and also the “Pops Concerts in the Garden”. He also contracted and performed with Don Henley for the A&E network television special on the Don Henley “Inside Job” 2000 tour. He was a member of the Fort Worth Stock Show Band for 25 years.
He was also an experienced music educator – elementary, secondary and junior college. He was
a clinician and performer at TCU, UTA, Tarleton State University, Drury University, Simpson College and Tarrant County College and Collin County College Jazz Festivals. After retirement, he continued to shared his love of music with students in master classes and as a private instructor. He was a member of the Bucket List Jazz Band and was leader of a ”Dave Pell” style octet.

Jon loved to travel, fly fish and shoot guns. He loved to take the family on RV road trips to the west and southwest, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Park. He owned and restored several antique cars and was an Extra Class ham radio operator. He was always wanting to learn something new.

Jon loved Jesus and was a member of Fielder Church for the past 15 years, serving as a member of the
Security team and as a member of the church orchestra. Jon had a great sense of humor. He was very laid back and easy to talk with – he never knew a stranger. He also loved to piddle. He loved and was devoted to his family.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Donna Stone.

Survivors: Wife – Lyn Stone; daughters – Erin Logan and husband Marcus, and Lauren Riall and husband Russ; grandchildren Gabe, Sarah, Ellison and Elijah. He will be dearly missed.
