John Wayne Bailey

John Wayne Bailey passed away on June 20, 2020 at his home in Arlington, Texas, spending his last weeks surrounded by friends and family, after a four year battle with thyroid cancer and many complications. A Memorial Service will be held on June 26, 2020 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4400 W. Arkansas Ln., Arlington, TX 76016. Wear cheerful, casual attire. The service will be on Facebook Live on Holy Cross Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Technology Fund, Texas Pharmacy Foundation (https://www.texaspharmacy.org/page/FoundationDonate), or a charity of your choice. He was born March 13, 1949 to A.D. Bailey and Laura Anita (Blevins) Bailey in Weatherford, Texas. He attended Weatherford ISD schools graduating in 1967. He then attended Weatherford Junior College earning an associate in arts degree in 1969. He furthered his education at the University of Texas in Arlington before attending Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma graduating from pharmacy school there in 1973. On December 28, 1971 he married Leatrice (Lea) Joy Andrews. John became a pharmacist in the DFW area working in hospital pharmacy for a year. Then he worked 44 years at Randol Mill Pharmacy before retiring in 2016. John was very active in the Tarrant County Pharmacy Association serving as president and a board member for many years. He received the Outstanding Service Award in 2017 and the Life Time Achievement Award in 2019 from the association. John also served on various committees with the Texas Pharmacy Association. John also belonged to Kiwanis for many years as a member of the Sunrise Kiwanis Club of Arlington. He served on their board and as president for the group. He was also very active in Holy Cross Lutheran Church serving as an Elder for many years and as Head Elder for several years before he got sick. He also attended Saturday morning Men's Bible Study. John had many interests over the years, especially with collecting things. He had an extensive collection of HO model trains, Beanie Babies, baseball and football cards, and most recently commemorative pocket knives. He was an avid reader, especially of spy novels, and loved watching “soap opera” type shows from Korea (reading the subtitles of course). He also had a love for those cars especially a bit on the sporty side. His “Little Red” always got a glance or two as he drove by. He was preceded in death by his parents. There are numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins as well. He is survived by his wife Lea Bailey of 48 years, his daughter, Laura and husband Carter Thomason of Arlington and Charles Bailey and girlfriend Ladi Valdez of North Richland Hills. He is also survived by his brother Archie Bailey of Fort Worth, his sister Nita Lou and husband James Norris Barton of Weatherford, and his sister Cathy Bailey of Fort Worth. He has three grandchildren—Bailey, Jayna, and Brynn Thomason and two step grandchildren—Maven Douangdara and Allyssa Valdez. Wade Family Funeral Home 817-274-9233
