ARLINGTON -- John W. Malandro went to be home with the Lord on Saturday, March 30, 2013, in Arlington. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Thursday at Advent Lutheran Church, 3232 S. Cooper St., Arlington. Interment: 10 a.m. Thursday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Lane A. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the American Cancer Society or Advent Lutheran Church. John was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to immigrant parents. He served in World War II in the Pacific theater, leaving the U.S. Army Air Forces with the rank of captain. After World War II, John continued his love of flying with a long career spanning 38 years and 28,500 hours aloft as a navigator, flight engineer and pilot, retiring from American Airlines. John's part-time occupations included engineering drafting, house building, volunteering at aero museums, teaching computers to seniors at Tarrant County College and as an instructor with the Dale Carnegie Courses. John loved people and enjoyed celebrating life with his family and friends. The family would like to thank all the medical personnel who provided exceptional care for John during his illness. Survivors: John is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Mary Theresa Vautrinot and spouse, David, of Scranton, Pa.; son, John W. Malandro Jr. and his spouse, Jacqueline; grandchildren, Charles and Cassandra of Collegeville, Pa.; and stepsons, Kent Erickson and spouse, Marcia, plus children, Keesha, Langley and Lillian, Marcus Erickson and spouse, Frankie, plus children, Eric and Claire of Houston, and Stuart Erickson of Denver, Colo.
