John Reese Kummer, 98, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on January 30, 2025. Born in Newark, New Jersey, on July 28, 1926, he was the son of Martin Theodore Kummer and Margaret Reese. A devoted husband, John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arlene Ruth Kummer and brother, Paul Evan Kummer.

John graduated from Bloomfield High School in New Jersey in 1943 and his impressive educational journey culminated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Omaha. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted as a Navy Radar Operator on the U.S.S. Midway, as the call to serve his country became paramount. His military career began in the Navy, but he later retired as a Lt. Colonel from the Air Force. John’s distinguished service saw him involved in three significant conflicts: World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He served aboard the USS Midway and showcased his skills as a Fighter Pilot, notably flying the C130 in Vietnam. His bravery and commitment to his country were recognized with a Purple Heart.

Beyond his military accomplishments, John was a long-time charter member of St. Barnabus United Methodist Church, where he contributed to his community with a spirit of generosity. After retirement, he dedicated time to volunteering at the C.R. Smith American Airlines Museum, sharing his passion for aviation with others. Even into his 90s, John continued to embrace the joy of flying, exemplifying his adventurous spirit.

John cherished family traditions, especially the annual summer beach trip to Padre Island with Arlene, where many memories were made. Together, they also took part in numerous elder hostel trips, expanding their experiences and connections.

An avid sports fan, John enjoyed following the Texas Rangers and New York Giants, bringing excitement to conversations and gatherings with his enthusiasm for the games.

John Reese Kummer is survived by his children, Scott Reese Kummer, Richard Lawrence Kummer, and Dale Ross Kummer, along with his spouse, Natasha Savicheva. He is also survived by his grandchildren, John Reese Kummer, Lee Arlene Sinclair and Marina Vasilyevna Savicheva and his great grandchildren,  Haley Ruth Sinclair and Chelsea Lee Sinclair. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to family, friends, and country, remembered fondly by all who knew him.
