John (Jonny) Wayne Hopkins

John (Jonny) Wayne Hopkins, 74, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in Arlington, Texas.

Funeral services for John “Jonny” Wayne Hopkins will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, at Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Visitation will one hour prior to the service from 10:00am to 11:00a.m. at the funeral home.

John was born on October 22, 1948 in Pampa, Texas to Ralph Wayne Hopkins and Cordie Lorene Gabriel Hopkins. He was a member of the 1st Methodist Church in Mansfield. He was always a man of faith and had a strong bond with the Lord.

John graduated from Pampa High School in Pampa, Texas. He played for the high school soccer team and was a part of the school’s communication club. His dad would not teach him to be a mechanic; he wanted him to pick any other occupation. John went to Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas to become a teacher, according to Aunt Mary.

He enjoyed camping and the outdoors. He loved fishing most of all. He always cheered for the hometown Texas Rangers. He was also a huge Cowboys fan. He enjoyed photographing nature and bird watching. John developed his love of fishing and photography from his father, Ralph “Wayne” Hopkins. He loved his cars and spent many hours keeping them looking brand new. As a kid he loved Mustangs, and that love would be passed on to his son. John’s son, Ryan Michael Hopkins, was born on September 5th, 1983. He married Marcella Wood-Roden on June 23, 1999.

Jonny is survived by his wife, Marcella Hopkins Son, Ryan Hopkins, brothers Jerry Hopkins and Russell Hopkins and sisters Mary Pate and Donna Starnes.
