John August Burgdorf

John A. Burgdorf, Jr., 92, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 in Arlington. Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 9, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Burial will be at DFW National Cemetery, Dallas. John (“J.A.”) Burgdorf was born November 19, 1928 near Giddings, Texas in Lee County. He married Ruth Harris on December 6, 1952. J.A. graduated from Giddings High School and The University of Texas in Austin with a Degree in Accounting. J.A. served in the U.S. Army between 1950 and 1952 at Ft. Hood, Texas and Mannheim, Germany. He worked for Sears for 32 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Arlington and was involved with church choirs, Going Places, and the Arlington Senior Men's Golf Association. He was a longtime member of the Cliff Dwellers Square Dance Club and the Silver Serenaders Senior Adult Choir. When living in DeSoto he volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Outreach Center. J.A. was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Burgdorf, Sr. and Grace Burgdorf; and wife of 61 years, Ruth Burgdorf. Survivors include Children, Linda Ward and husband, Robert, Wayne Burgdorf and wife, Tanja; Grandchildren, David Ward, Daniel Ward and wife, Stefanie, John Burgdorf and wife, Hannah, Luke Burgdorf and wife, Erin, Abby Burgdorf and Anni Burgdorf; and Great-grandchild, John August.
