With heavy hearts, we honor the life of Joel D. Payne, who graced this world for nearly 95 years before bidding us farewell in Rockwall, Texas. Born in the charming town of Bullard, Texas, Joel was the cherished son of Edwin and Irene Payne and the beloved brother of Lee Roy Payne, all now at peace.
Joel’s journey through life was marked by profound love and unwavering devotion. After serving his country in the US Army following World War II, he united in marriage with Iris Robinson on April 9, 1947. Together, they shared a bond that defined their lives, raising three wonderful children—Brenda, Michael, and Gary. The loss of both Iris and Gary in 2020 weighed heavily on his heart, yet Joel remained a steadfast figure of strength and love for his family.
Joel’s legacy shines brightly in the lives of his seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom carry forward the warmth and wisdom he imparted. He was not just a father and provider; he was a loving presence, whose laughter and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Professionally, Joel dedicated three decades of his life as a machinist at Texas Instruments, where his skill and commitment earned him the respect of his colleagues. A true sports enthusiast, he wore his Dallas Cowboys colors proudly and found joy in cheering for other teams. Even in retirement, he maintained an active social life at Liberty Heights Gracious Senior Living, where friendships flourished and laughter echoed.
Tragically, health challenges emerged earlier this year, culminating in a heart attack in January followed by a cancer diagnosis that would shape his final days. Yet, through it all, Joel faced every moment with dignity and grace.
Our deepest gratitude extends to the compassionate staff at Liberty Heights, Alinea Family Hospice Care, and Nola's Hands. Their dedication ensured that Joel was comforted and cared for as he transitioned from this life.
As we say goodbye, we hold tight the cherished memories of a man who loved deeply, lived fully, and inspired all around him. Rest in peace, Dad. Your spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of our hearts.
