Joanna Brooks Dunyon Nuttall was born in Chicago, IL on September 3, 1929 to Albert and Corinne Dunyon.
The family moved often for her father’s work as a gold and silver engineer. One of Jo’s favorite places was Montana, where she rode her beloved horses and studied at a one-room schoolhouse.
After graduating from the University of Utah in Nursing, Jo met J. Bruce Nuttall on a blind date, and they married July 3, 1954. Before leaving the Salt Lake area, their first three children were born. Despite being uprooted from state to state for Bruce’s job, Jo often found fulfilling work at local clinics—the most remote being Fairbanks, AK where they welcomed their fourth child. In the early 1970s, the family moved to Arlington, TX where they bought and kept a house, eventually settling there in 1978 after two back and forth moves to Arkansas. Jo was an exceptional nurse, avid reader, expert seamstress, and skilled baker. She loved animals, dabbled in writing, and enjoyed music and the arts. Jo never met a stranger and had a keen sense of fairness. She will be forever in our hearts.
On February 19th, 2021, Jo passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in the wee hours of the morning at the age of 91.
She is survived by her husband J. Bruce; son, D. Bruce (Marie), daughter, Charisse (John), daughter, Denice (Charles); granddaughter Jordan, grandson Max, and great-grandson Kaiden.
She was followed in death by her oldest daughter Corinne (Dennis) who fought a courageous battle against cancer but ultimately lost in November, 2021.
