Joan Phyllis Cheesman

February 3, 1938 — June 3, 2021

Our beloved and precious wife, mother and grandmother, Joan Phyllis Cheesman, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021. She devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren, putting her family first and always being our rock. She was and will continue to be an inspiration to us all for living life to the fullest. Joan was born in Bronx, NY on February 3, 1938 to her parents Violet and Julius Bekassy. She was raised along with her sister, Virginia, in Edgewater Park, a neighborhood in the Bronx. Joan attended Cathedral High School and Tarrant County College. She married the love of her life, Lawrence Cheesman, on July 19, 1958. Together they raised five children in New Jersey before moving to Texas in 1984. Joan spent many a day running her children to baseball/basketball/football/soccer/swimming practices/games/meets. She was their biggest fan. After raising her children, Joan finally got to enjoy her 10 grandchildren. She became a regular at their school and sporting events, and you could always find her doing arts and crafts with or for them. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy! Joan was an active member in the Woman's Club, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Prayer Group and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed painting, scrapbooking, crocheting, and cruising, but her favorite activity was sitting on the beach. The ocean was magical to her. Many wonderful memories were made at the Jersey shore with lifetime friends. Joan will be welcomed in heaven by her parents, Violet and Julius Bekassy and sister, Virginia Bekassy. She is survived by her loving husband Larry; five children, Geralyn Gorshing (Butch), Larry Cheesman (Michele), Kevin Cheesman, Michael Cheesman and Joan Olson (Tim); 10 grandchildren, Brian Cheesman, Chris Cheesman, Ashley Daza (Andres), Scott Cheesman, Nick Cheesman, Kelley Cheesman, Kayla Nicasio (Jose), Colin Cheesman, Carter Olson and Connor Olson. A visitation will be held at Wade Funeral Home on 4140 West Pioneer Parkway, Arlington from 5 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, June 8th. Funeral services will be held at St. Vincent de Paul on 5819 Pleasant Ridge Road, Arlington at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, June 9th.
