Dr. Jerry William Bane went home to be with God on October17, 2021, at the age of 81 in Ft. Worth, TX.
Born in Frost, TX, Jerry was the son of Ruby and Dr. W.V. Bane, a Methodist minister. He attended Arlington High School and graduated valedictorian in 1958. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Marsha. Married in 1961, both attended Southern Methodist University. Jerry graduated Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude in 1962. He was also a member of the Southwest Conference's championship SMU swim team.
Jerry's life was dedicated to serving God. After attending Perkins School of Theology, he decided his life of service would be through practicing medicine. Jerry studied at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, interned at the Dallas VA, and did his surgical residence at The University of Mississippi. He then served for two years as a surgeon in the U.S. Army in Nuremberg, Germany.
After many years of school and training, Jerry and his family returned to Arlington, TX, where he began his surgical practice at Arlington Memorial Hospital. While there, he was Chief of Surgery, Chief of Staff, and Physician of theYear. For many years, he treated, and ministered the people of Arlington, where he will be remembered as a healer and a man of God.
Jerry's passion, in addition to his family and being a surgeon, was his church. While living in Arlington, he attended Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of the choir, taught Sunday school, Bible study, and was on various boards.
In 2007, Jerry and Marsha moved to Fredericksburg, TX, in order to be closer to family. While living there, Jerry served as the medical director at the Good Samaritan Center, was a member of the Hill Country Memorial Hospital Foundation Board and was a member of The Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marsha Sutherland Bane of Arlington, TX; son Marc (Lynn) Bane of Corpus Christi, TX; and daughter Margaret (Lisa) Wegner of Fredericksburg, TX. He was also a loving grandfather to five wonderful grandkids, Zachary, Jack, Emily, Gus and Sam. Jerry is also survived by his brothers Wilford and David. Jerry was loved by many, and will be missed by countless friends and relatives.
Services to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Thursday, October 21 at 2 p.m. at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church (1800 N Llano St., Fredericksburg, TX. 78624). A memorial visitation will also be held at Wade Funeral home in Arlington (4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, TX 76013), 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, October 25th. In lieu of flowers, and to honor the life of Dr. Jerry Bane, memorials can be made to the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church or the Good Samaritan Center of Fredericksburg, TX.
