Jerold Alan Edmondson, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, professor, and US Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023, in Arlington, Texas. Jerold, born and raised in Plainfield, Indiana, touched the lives of many throughout his journey and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and intellectual curiosity.
Jerry dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and education. After proudly serving in the US Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade, he pursued his passion for linguistics, achieving a distinguished career as a professor in the field. His expertise and enthusiasm inspired countless students throughout the years, shaping their understanding of language and culture.
Outside of academia, Jerry cherished his role as a devoted husband to his wife, Shih-Ping Edmondson. Together, they shared over four decades of love and support. Their marriage began in Berlin, Germany, on May 18, 1979, and their bond remained strong until Jerold’s final moments.
Jerry’s profound impact extended to his beloved daughter, Laura Fay Edmondson, who will forever carry his wisdom, strength, and compassion in her heart. He also leaves behind his brother, James William Edmondson, and his sister, Jean Ellen Wilcox. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Marvin and Mildred Edmondson, who instilled in him the values of integrity, hard work, and resilience.
A man of faith, Jerry was an active member of St. Barnabas United Methodist Church in Arlington. He found solace and guidance within the embrace of his spiritual community, and his kindness and generosity will be greatly missed by all who knew him there.
To honor and remember Jerry’s well-lived life, family and friends will gather to celebrate his legacy at a visitation service from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas. The funeral service, filled with compassion and reflection, will be a testament to the profound impact Jerry had on all those fortunate enough to have known him. It will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Wade Funeral Home as well. There will be a reception following the service from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm. Jerry will be honored at 2:30 pm, Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
Jerold Alan Edmondson will forever be remembered as a gentle soul, a brilliant mind, and a beacon of love and inspiration. His undeniable passion for knowledge, his unwavering devotion to his family, and his unwavering kindness towards others will remain etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
