Jerry was a firm believer in the Lord and made sure anyone that met her knew as much. She loved to play games, sewing, crocheting, counted cross stitch, quilting, and most of all loved to garden. And her Irises. The bees knees of her collection of plants and the pride of her flower beds. She would get out at the crack of dawn to weed the beds and look for new buds and send out or post pictures of her new blooms.
Jerry was ready for heaven. She knew exactly where she was going and said she was not afraid. She told me shortly before she passed that she was going to see Jesus soon and she was smiling when she said it. Her legacy will live on through Belinda and Rick in all the ways that she shaped their lives.
In Jerrys’ own words:
“Growing up in a small town was wonderful. All the grandparents, aunts, and uncles lived there. I remember my grandmother having a quilt hanging from her living room ceiling and three or four women around it quilting. Lots of people had gardens and canned what they grew. Maybe that’s where I get my love of gardening. I love working in the yard. Flower beds and vegetable gardens. Mike loved it too so we would work together. I also enjoy needlework and quilting. I guess that might come from my upbringing too.
When I was very young my mother taught me to sew. Of course, we didn’t have electric machines back then. I learned how to hem dish towels. That was exciting! It wasn’t long before I was making my own clothes. In high school Home-EC was the only subject I ever made A+ in.
I also like counted cross-stitch, knitting and crocheting. But my greatest love is flowers. My favorite flower is the iris. I have over 100 plants. Every time I look at the blooms, I think about how wonderful God is. Only God could make a flower that beautiful.”
She will be sincerely missed by everyone in the family and by her close friends.
