Jeanne Powers

Jeanne Louise Wright Powers, age 76, of Arlington, Texas passed away on February 18, 2023.

Jeanne was born on July 30, 1946 in Longmont, Colorado, a daughter of the late Roy R. and Ora Pearl “Johnnie” John Wright. She was the middle child of three siblings who spend their childhood in Colorado before relocating to Maryland. Jeanne attended college in Chickasha, Oklahoma, which was her mother’s hometown, at USAO, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma where she earned Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Development in 1968. She taught until she had her three children in the early ‘70s and was then a stay-at-home mom until she rejoined the teaching ranks in Arlington, Texas in 1988.

Jeanne was a kind and thoughtful soul. She was a teacher for the Arlington Independent School District for over 23 years. She retired from teaching full time in May 2011, but continued to substitute at various elementary schools in the district up to the time of her passing. She loved teaching children. She kept many of the stories and pictures drawn by her students. She adored mementos.

Her other love was for small dogs. She was proceeded in death by her sweet Gracie whom she will rejoin, but sadly left her Gidget behind in the loving arms of her granddaughter, Harley. These dogs were her world once her children were grown.

Jeanne is survived by her daughter Shelley Ives and husband Michael of Mansfield, sons Scott Powers and his fiancé Amber of Dallas, and Sean Powers and his wife Michelle of Mansfield; Grandchildren Meghan Whitehouse and husband Colton of Mansfield, Amber Maddox of Carrollton, Harley Powers of Denton, Cory Powers and Cooper Powers both of Mansfield; and Siblings Gary Wright and wife Janie of Bullhead City, Arizona and Shirley Wright of Durango, Colorado. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

A memorial service for Jeanne Powers will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Wade Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, Texas 76013.
