Jean Kegans

January 15, 1928 — March 16, 2022

On March 16, 2022, Jean Walker Kegans, sister, wife, mother, and friend to many passed away at the age of 94. Jean was born on January 15, 1928, to James Wiley and Syble Walker in Loraine, Texas. She loved growing up on a ranch / cotton farm in Loraine, Texas. She studied elementary education at McMurry University in Abilene. She was a schoolteacher for over 15 years and impacted the lives of many children. Jean was also a member of McMurry’s first women’s service group, TIP Sailors.

In 1948, Jean married Troy Kegans in Loraine in a beautiful lawn wedding at her parent’s ranch house. Together, they enjoyed 68 years of marriage that included two sons – James Russell (wife Brenda) of Arlington, Chad of Fort Collins, Colorado. They loved to travel and shared numerous trips to Europe. Troy’s career with General Tire took them to Akron, Ohio. They enjoyed many years of fellowship with lifelong friends before they moved to and retired in Arlington. Jean enjoyed her bible study and luncheon groups, she was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church in Arlington, and she faithfully attended the Wesley Progressors Sunday school class. Jean was a light to all who knew her. She will be missed dearly.

In addition to her two sons, Jean leaves behind four grandchildren – Lindsay Kegans Duncan (Jamie) of Austin, Brent Kegans (Emily) of Humble, Texas, Cole Kegans of Denver, and Holly Kegans of Austin, and four great grandchildren – Grayson and Leighton Duncan and Finley and Adalyn Kegans. Jean also leaves brother-in-law Eugene Kegans (Becky) of Leonard, TX, and sister-in-law Wanda Duncan of Arlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy, her mother and father, her sister Mary Love Allbright of Odessa, Texas and her daughter-in-law, Kate Kegans of Fort Collins, Colorado. Celebration of life will be held at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, April 29 at 3:00pm. Jean will join her husband, Troy, in the columbarium at First United Methodist Church in Arlington.
