Jean Cunningham was born January 26, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. Her father, James Davison, worked at Ford Motor Company and mother, Sylvia Danz Davison was manager and owner of the family restaurant. Jean was the first of eleven children raised in the city of Detroit.
Jean attended Cass Tech School of Business graduating with honors in 1961. During that same year, she married Hugh E Cunningham Sr. From the late 1960's to 1973, Jean career path started in retail sales at Arlan's Department store known as one of the most popular retail outlets in Detroit MI. In 1975, she joined A&P, the largest grocery retailer in the United States working through 1981. Jean spent over 45 years in Detroit. Shortly after the passing of her beloved husband in 1989, she relocated to North Texas to reside with her children. There, she rekindled her passion in retail sales at Dillard's Department Store being recognized year-over-year as the Top Sales Producer from 1991 to retirement in 2008.
Jean was small in frame but large in life giving encouragement to family and friends about the preciousness of taking care of the body. She enjoyed shopping, restaurant dining, reading, and business investments. A devoted Christian, Jean faithfully was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church receiving her wings on April 26, 2020.
She will forever be remembered by her family: Children, Debra, Hugh; son-in-law, Terrance; four sisters, Beverly, Sylvia, Diane, Yvonne; brother, Jamal; six grandchildren, Marisa, Hugh III, Samara, Madison, Jeremiah, Joshua; one great-grandson, Christian; In-law family, Darnell, Gabriella, Krystal, Israel and children; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hugh E Cunningham Sr.; father, James; mother, Sylvia; sisters, Karen, Brenda, Sheila, Deloris, Shirley, Louise; brother, James Davison Jr.
