Janice Lee Summerson

Janice Lee (“Jan”) Summerson, 87, went to be with the Lord August 23, 2024. She was born on November 15, 1936, in Philipsburg, PA to Leo and Mildred Gunter. Being the elder of three brothers Ray, Barry and Sam, she was the family’s only daughter.

In April 1953, she married James Jay Hill and moved to Niagara Falls. Being away from family, Jan returned to Philipsburg to deliver her two daughters, Marilyn and Cherie. Seeking opportunity in Texas, the family moved to Arlington in 1970. Jan lived in Arlington for 13 years before moving to San Antonio. While in San Antonio she met and married Ralph R. “Dick” Summerson; they were married for 31 years. She worked at Alamo Title Company, retiring after 20 years of service, and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Jan returned to Arlington in 2017 where she reconnected with old friends and made new friends through her Bible study group at Fielder Church.

Jan was the most loving, caring, selfless, humble, Jesus loving person. She lived a life that quietly, but visibly exemplified what it meant to serve and care for others; teaching by her actions how to love and give unconditionally. She will forever live in our hearts.

Preceded in death: husband, Dick Summerson, mother and father, and brother Ray Gunter.

She is survived by daughters, Marilyn Bornsheuer and husband John, and Cherie Vines and husband Dan; and was “Grandy” to grandchildren, Jessica Choate, Clinton, and Kacie Vines; and great grandchildren, Jorja and Jett Choate. She is also survived by her brothers, Barry and Sam Gunter; and sister in-laws, Barbara, Ruth Ann, and Betty; along with many nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to thank you for helping us honor and celebrate Jan’s life. A Funeral Service will be held at Fielder Church at 1pm on Saturday, August 31st.

Visitation will immediately follow with burial at 3pm at Emerald Hills Memorial Park in Kennedale.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her honor to the Arlington Humane Society www.arlingtonhumanesociety.org
