Janice D'Aun Glass-Thompson

ARLINGTON -- Janice D'Aun Glass-Thompson, a woman of incredible strength and compassion, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and friends Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, from complications due to Parkinson's disease, which she battled for 3 1/2 years. Memorial service: A celebration of Janice's life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1200 W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington. The Rev. Miriam Georg and Dr. Eugene Robertson will officiate. Please join the family in celebrating Janice's life as a remarkably courageous and loving woman. In true Janice fashion, she planned and organized the celebration from the grandkids and friends participating in the service down to the scriptures and music. Janice will be laid to rest in the Andice cemetery. Janice was born June 15, 1940, in Shamrock to Herschel and Annabelle Glass. She spent most of her life growing up on a farm near Andice. A skilled actress with a beautiful voice, Janice won best actress in the state of Texas UIL competition in 1958. She dreamed of becoming an actress but children began arriving. Janice had four children in 2 1/2 years (two were twins). She was a wonderful mother who instilled in her four children the importance of honor, religion, compassion, work ethic and achieving a higher education. All of her four children achieved college and graduate degrees. Her family was her pride and joy. Janice also had a profound impact on the lives of many others, including many friends of her children who considered her their "second" mom. She attended college at the "young" age of 48 and received her college degree cum laude in political science at the age of 52. Janice became a paralegal in Dallas and retired as paralegal manager from the Dallas law firm of Weil, Gotschal & Manges. She was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class and Stephen Ministry at Trinity United Methodist Church, Arlington Girls Club (now Girls Inc.), Junior League of Arlington, Arlington Civic League (president), Arlington Medical Auxiliary (president), Arlington Civic Chorus, Theatre Arlington and the board of First United Methodist Church in Arlington. Janice left the following message: "For the many faithful, compassionate and loving friends, please accept my heartfelt and deepest gratitude. You know who you are. You walked with me every step of the way." She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jana D'Aun Thompson. Survivors: Daughter, Kelly Thompson Weeks and her husband, David P. Weeks, of Huntsville; son, Gerald Kenneth Thompson and his wife, JoLee Thompson, of Arlington; son, John Kevin Thompson and his wife, Patti Thompson, of Dallas; grandchildren, Tori Thompson, Dylan Weeks, Trace Thompson, Meghan Thompson, Hank Thompson, Tanner Thompson, Tucker Thompson and Zachary Zane "ZZ" Weeks; and the father of her children, Dr. Gerald G.
