James Thomas Matthews Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. passed away on May 29, 2024, in Arlington, Texas. Born on October 20, 1936, in Fort Worth, Texas, JT was the cherished son of James Thomas Matthews Sr. and Evelyn Coburn Matthews.
JT proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years, where he was stationed around the world. His service to the nation was marked by dedication and honor.
A true gentleman of the Rat Pack era, JT was known for his impeccable style and kind heart. He was outgoing, genuine, and loving, always protective of his work family. He worked in the family antique business. JT exemplified dedication and passion in his professional life.
An avid golfer, JT was often considered a ringer on the course. His passion for golf was matched by his love for music and singing, where his vocal talents brought joy to many. A devout Christian, JT was not only a leader and preacher but also a nurturing soul who shared his faith through his nursing home music ministry. He even recorded music and sermons, spreading his message of love and devotion.
JT married the love of his life, Peggie Glenn, and together they raised a wonderful family. He is survived by his devoted wife Peggie Matthews; his loving son Jay Thomas Matthews III and his wife, Abby; Stepson, Ron Jones and wife Martha; sisters, Jamalyn Cannon and Tee Matthews Hamilton; and his cousin, Terry Cates and Fradean French; and grandchildren, Joshua James, Ella Jo, and Madison. James’s legacy also includes extended family and a wide circle of friends who were blessed to know him.
To know JT was to love him. His presence was a source of warmth and joy to all who met him. His family and friends will forever remember his kind soul, his genuine spirit, and the love he bestowed upon them.
A celebration of JT’s life will be held at a later date to honor the extraordinary man he was. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
