James “Rick” Kimbrough, 71, passed away early Monday, December 5 unexpectedly. Rick was born in Dallas, graduated from Adamson H.S. and resided in Midlothian, Tx.
Rick along with his brother Kenny, started Kimbrough Fire in 1982 and grew this successful family business that employed their mother, step-father, brothers, sister, and many other family and close friends, for 39-years, into one of the most successful and respected companies in their field. They both retired from that business in 2021. Rick, along with Kenny, loved the music business and had many “stars” whom they could count as close friends. Several years ago, they were part of the group that built and managed the “Live Oak” music venue off Magnolia in Fort Worth. The “Kimbrough Kantina” golf tournament near their lake house at Cedar Creek is legendary, coming up on 30 years. Several notable concerts followed, with the proceeds going to a worthy cause each year. Rick was one of the most generous, humble, kind people you would ever know. Being a gifted songwriter, he also loved to pick and sing with his fellow musicians whenever he had the chance. As all of Rick’s friends are well aware, he was a huge Razorback, Ranger, and Cowboy fan. He loved to fish and golf with his friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his father- Richard Kimbrough, mother – Sally Swinford, and brother David Kimbrough.
Rick is survived by his son Ricky Kimbrough, daughter Jennifer Sample and her husband Eric, his two precious granddaughters Paige Sample and Storie Sample whom he absolutely adored, Vicki Kimbrough the mother of his children, two brothers Kenny Kimbrough and his companion Lisa Lynch, Mark Kimbrough and his wife Christine, two sisters Susie Sargent and her husband David, Kathy Skates and her husband Danny, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rick is also survived by his beloved companion, Linda Walker of Fort Worth.
Pallbearers are a few of his many great friends: Verlon Thompson, Tony Pierce, Krag Schmedel, Scooter Kiser, Hoang “Doc” Le, and Danny Naccarato.
