Richard was the son of RJ and Nessie DeBruhl Lucas, born October 16, 1941 in Lancaster, South Carolina. In 1963, he graduated from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. He later earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dallas. In 1968, he switched careers from the defense industry to electronic sales and followed this path until retiring in 2012. Richard loved to travel. His employment carried him across the United States. He and his wife Becky filled their leisure time with trips to the wineries of Napa, resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean, several European countries, and numerous other destinations. Richard enjoyed activity throughout his life, including playing football in high school, supporting and sometimes coaching his children's sports, learning to ski in his fifties, and watching the D/FW pro teams. In retirement, he became an active member of the Sunrise Rotary Club. Richard was a member of First United Methodist Church for most of his five decades in Arlington. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rebecca Robertson Lucas; his daughter Dawn Lucas Snoddy, her husband David, and their sons Matthew and James, all of Flower Mound, Texas; and his son Scott Richard Lucas, his wife Courtney, and their daughter Sydney, all of Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy to First United Methodist Church of Arlington, 313 N Center, Arlington, TX 76011, or contributions in his name to the American Cancer Society.
