Mills was a lover of sports and a life-long coach. His steadfast blue-eyed stare and blinding smile left people with an understanding of the man that he was. Mills worked 49 years at General Motors to provide for his family. He was a star quarter back at Arlington High School and made an impact on every person he coached in football, softball, and basketball for 60 years after. Mills led many teams to victory and molded countless players into commendable people and star athletes. He touched all who knew him and held a special place in his heart for his Arlington High classmates.
To know James was to know kindness, selflessness, and empathy; mixed with some anxiety and the occasional flare of a temper. The respect he earned and the lessons he taught will span generations.
