ARLINGTON -- James Valentine "Jim" Meier, 81, passed away Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, in Arlington.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, Pastor Joe Troutman officiating. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mission Arlington.
Jim was born in Dallas on June 24, 1933, to Walter Henry Meier and Dorotha Hazeltine Meier. He resided in Arlington for 75 years, attended Arlington High School, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years. Jim worked for American Can Co. for 35 years, retiring to do what he really wanted to do: restore antiques. He built a woodworking shop at his home, which occupied him for the rest of his life. Jim served as a board member for the Arlington Historical Society and was a volunteer for Mission Arlington.
He was married to the "woman he gave his heart to," Barbara, for 61 years. He had a great love for his family, and especially his grandchildren to whom he was known as Grumps.
Survivors: Beloved wife, Barbara Lee Meier; children, Jamilyn von Rosenberg, Leanna Einhaus and husband, Jim, Greg Meier and wife, Carolyn, and Tim Meier and wife, Shelley; grandchildren, Monica von Rosenberg and fiancè, Jeffrey Linder, Jeff von Rosenberg and wife, Deb, Dustin Einhaus and wife, Emily, Aaron Einhaus and wife, Melyn, Addie Meier and Allee Meier; and great-grandchildren, Ryder Einhaus, Emmaline von Rosenberg and Weston Einhaus.
