James Jewel Webb

On Sunday, September 6th, 2020 at 7:14 p.m., James Jewel Webb, husband, father, papa, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, completed his journey here on earth and received his eternal reward in Heaven. James will be forever loved and remembered by his best friend and wife of 55 years, Jan "Lil Darlin," their five children, and their spouses (who he also loved like his own kids). Richard "RichArd," Dayna "Danie lu I" and Jeff, Shelley "Shellums" and Brendan, Michael "Buey" and Amanda, Andra "Gidgie Goo Gee" and Shane. His 11 grandchildren include Miranda “Nugget" and her spouse Daniel Meredith “Rosebud" and her spouse JB, Mari, Caleb “CaLEB," Haven “Shugar," Hansen “Son," Riley "Riley Cole," Ryan “Rhino,” Faith “Fathie," Noah "Noah-Noah," and Grace “Gracie.” As you can see, he loved his nicknames. He had many himself such as: Dad, Daddy, Papa, Daddy-O, Pops, Jim, JJ, James Joo, Sly fox, and Rabbit, to name a few. He will also be forever remembered by his brother Billy Don and his wife Kathy, his Aunt Imogene, and Aunt Reba “Sis" who was more like a sister. As well as many close nieces, nephews, and dear friends. James was born in Cumby, Texas, April 7,1945 to Monalee Ernestine Webb and Royce Jewel Webb. Many of James' fondest childhood memories go back to time spent on the family farm with his brother Bill. In 1953, James and his family moved to Grand Prairie, Texas, where he went on to graduate from Grand Prairie High School. Soon after, James reluctantly accepted an invitation to attend a blind double date. The result of that blind date is his wife of 55 years, Janice Kay. The two were married in July of 1965. In 1963, James became a soldier for his country and would serve 11 years in the US Army as Staff Sargent Webb. After attending boot camp in Fort Bliss, Texas, James went to Fort Polk, Louisiana where he served in the 980th Company, Combat Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He would often refer to his service as some of the best days of his life. He loved his country and would often tell of the history and patriotism he held so dear. He worked in advertising most of his adult life, but his true passion was undoubtedly his family. James spent countless hours attending and volunteering at many of his grandkids sporting and school events, He traveled all over Texas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Kansas to attend their national events. He frequented many plays, musicals, recitals, and many times would attend multiple events in one evening to be there for them all. James loved to travel. Some of his other travels took him through the United States up to Canada and as far away as England and Scotland (as he would say with all the accent he could find). Church was an important part of James' life. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and Jesus' light would shine through him to all he met. For over 30 years, James served as a deacon and an elder at his brother's, Pastor Bill Webb, church. He served along side one of his dear friends, George Gentry. One of James' primary duties was driving the church courtesy bus, where he frequently picked up those in need of a ride to church. He would say, “I have to go pick up my ladies.” He was, undeniably, in love with his Savior. James loved games! Card games, board games, dominoes, video games. Nothing brought a smile to his face quite like handing a whoopin' out to a friend, or more commonly a family member, who dared to challenge his “skills." We know he's up in Heaven trying to teach his momma, who also loves games, how to play Nertz and Dutch Blitz - two of his all time favorites! James/Dad/Papa, no words can describe the void your passing has left for those who love you the most. The hole you left is insurmountable. You will forever be remembered as the kindest, most loving, compassionate, gentle, and faithful man. We all admire and look up to you. Your legacy is and will continue to live on forever in your children, grandchildren, and generations to come. We love you, Daddy, until we meet again....
