James Harden Smith

It is with deep, and heavy sadness that we announce the passing of James Harden Smith, 85, of Arlington, Texas. Jim passed away peacefully on October 2, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Jim was born June 18, 1932 in Conasaugua, Tennessee to Roy and Annie Smith (McConnell). On May 13, 1953 he married the former Rose Cherchio in San Francisco, California. Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed going to work and only retired a few years prior to his passing from Poly-America. He also enjoyed, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his “Rosy”, children and grandchildren. Jim was a communicant at Saint Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of BPOE Lodge 2114 of Arlington, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Rose L. Smith. Jim was extremely loving and proud of his six children, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Daughters; Sue Ellen Johnson (preceded in death), Lee Ann (William) Cairns, of Kennedale, TX, Elaine Smith (Brian Mellis) of Pulaski, NY, Julie McCrobie (Robert) of Oswego, NY, Ann(Louis)Jacobsen of Mansfield, TX and his only son, James H. Smith Jr. (Terri) of Pecan Grove, TX. Ten grandchildren, Sarah (Michael) Stork, Laura (Devin)Marshall, Julie Cairns (Colin Wickstrom), Katie (Sam)Walz, James (Emaline) Bates, Louis Jacobsen, Mallory (David) Rasmussen, Heather(Chris) Vonderhaar, Cory Smith, Chloe Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Beitler and Reagan Marshall. A special thank you to the Aspen Hospice of Arlington for their loving care and support. Visitation will be held on November 2, 2017 from 6-7 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home, 4140 W Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, TX 76013. A funeral mass will be held November 3, 2017 at Saint Maria Goretti, 1200 S Davis Dr, Arlington, TX 76013 at 11 a.m. Jim's cremains will be placed in the Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in memory of Jim Smith to Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County, 5740 Airport Freeway, Fort Worth, TX 76117.
