James was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland on Oct 22, 1936; he was the son of Thomas and Cecilia Morton, the oldest of two children. James attended White Chapel Secondary School, then simultaneously began an internship with an accounting firm while he attended the University of Glasgow where he gained his qualification as a chartered accountant of Scotland. James then began a productive and fulfilling career as an accountant and executive that afforded him the ability to live in England, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, and the United States. On January 30th, 1965, James married the love of his life, Isobel Shand. James' work allowed him and Isobel to travel the world and move and live for the last 34 years in the United States. He made the proud decision to become a US citizen in 2011. During their 56-year marriage, James and Isobel, raised one loving daughter, Lynne Groff, and in 1995 welcomed beloved son-in-law Douglas Groff into the family. In 1996, James, Isobel his wife, and Lynne his daughter began a new adventure together as Owners of Primrose School of N.E. Green Oaks. James was loved by the many children and parents at the school. He was proud of the role their school has played in the lives of so many families over the past 26 years. He truly embraced the school being an extension of their student's families. But nothing made him prouder than his role as Papa to Alex and Katie, who he adored and doted on. He would do anything within his power for his grandchildren and family. James also loved Texas A&M University and his blood ran maroon. He loved Aggie Football and the Aggie Band and was an avid season Ticket holder while his daughter attended Texas A&M. He was an even prouder grandfather when his two grandchildren Alex and Katie both made the decision to also attend Texas A&M.
SURVIVORS: James is survived by his wife, Isobel Morton of Arlington, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Doug Groff of Kennedale, Texas; grandchildren, Alex and Katie Groff; sister and brother-in-law Ann and Drew Murray, of Glasgow, Scotland; and nephew Stuart Murray of Glasgow, Scotland.
