James Edward Shearer Sr. passed away on March 16, 2024 in Arlington, Texas.
James was born on August 2, 1932 in Wellington, Texas to David Clyde Shearer and Bulah May Montgomery Shearer. His family moved to Arlington, Texas in the early 1940’s. James Edward Shearer Sr. married Jonnie Lois Becknal on December 25, 1948. They welcomed two sons, James Edward Shearer Jr. and Allen Shearer. James was active in the Optimist Club of Arlington and coached his son’s baseball teams. James worked at H.E. Cannon Florist for several years before changing to the United States Postal Office in Arlington and retired in 1992. He continued to walk 5 miles a day until the last few years. James was a former Deacon at Northside Baptist Church for many years until joining Lamar Baptist Church as a Deacon. He and his wife were active with the Neighbor Mission Program in North Arlington and active members of their Sunday School Class. James Edward Shearer Sr. was the most loving, kind Christian man. Always willing to help anyone in need.
Preceded in death by his parents, David Clyde Shearer and Bulah Mae Shearer Becknal and wife, Jonnie Lois Shearer (2016), and eldest son James Edward Shearer Jr. (1996), a Police Officer in Denver City, Texas.
Survivors: Son, Allen Shearer, Nieces and Nephews, Gaye Wilson, Mike Becknal, Rev. Raymond Watkins, Clarence Watkins, Donald Watkins, Rev. Kenneth Watkins, Roger Staley, Doria White, Shirley Miller, and Brenda Darsey. His Church Family at Lamar Baptist.
And a final Thank you And Congratulations to the Texas Rangers Baseball Team for winning the World Series that James Edward Shearer Sr. had wanted to see for many years.
Memorial donations may be made to the Senior Adult fund at Lamar Baptist Church.
